JavaWockies is a FIRST Robotics Championship team based out of Springwater, Ontario. The 2018 season will be our second one, and in our rookie year (2017) we managed to make it to the FRC World Championships in St. Louis, MO.
JavaWockies FRC team 6336 is a community-based robotics team getting teens in our area involved in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) education. We are part of the organization known as FIRST.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in STEM while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
Through the program, students are able to learn CAD software, programming, engineering, leadership skills, teamwork, metal working, and using machines such as a lathe and milling machine to name a few of the benefits. All of what they learn is all hands-on education, showing them how the knowledge in their school textbooks actually applies to real life. Besides that, it’s great for anyone, even students who might not be planning on pursuing a STEM-related career, as it allows them to improve their personal skillset and encourages them to try new things!
